Click It or Ticket Seatbelt Use Enforcement Project | Spring 2023

Published on May 16, 2023

The Lincoln Police Department will join in a nationwide “Click it or Ticket” enforcement effort aimed at promoting seatbelt safety and increasing compliance with seatbelt laws. The campaign began May 15, 2023, and will continue through June 4, 2023. Funding for this project is provided by the Nebraska Department of Transportation-Highway Safety Office.

The "Click It or Ticket" campaign is an initiative that helps promote our commitment to ensuring the safety of all drivers and passengers on our city streets. By participating in this campaign, we hope to raise awareness about the life-saving benefits of wearing seatbelts and reduce the number of preventable injuries and fatalities in traffic crashes.

During the detail, officers will be conducting enforcement throughout the city, concentrating on areas with high-injury crash rates. We will place special emphasis on those drivers not wearing seatbelts and watching closely for child restraint violations. As a reminder, children under the age of eight must ride correctly secured in a federally-approved child safety seat.

Statistics consistently show that wearing a seatbelt significantly reduces the risk of severe injuries or death in a traffic crash. Despite the studies, a concerning number of individuals still neglect to buckle up. Reduce your risk with a simple click. Buckle up.
