LPD High Visibility Traffic Safety Initiative Begins June 1 | 2026

Published on May 29, 2026

The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) today announced it will conduct a comprehensive traffic enforcement initiative from June 1 through August 31. Additional LPD officers will work overtime to monitor high-traffic corridors and areas prone to serious collisions, focusing on one of the primary contributing factors in fatal traffic crashes: speed.

Warmer weather, school vacations and holiday travel generate a significant increase in traffic volume and a corresponding rise in hazardous driving behaviors.

This safety campaign is funded by a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office. This federal grant allows LPD to assign extra officers specifically for traffic safety and enforcement without reducing the number of officers available to respond to routine emergency calls for service.
