The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) is investigating a fatal crash that claimed the lives of two teenagers in northwest Lincoln.

Just before 1:30 p.m. on Monday, June 30, officers were called to the area of Antelope Valley Parkway and Virginia Street for a two-vehicle crash.

The preliminary investigation determined a red 2014 Cadillac ATS driven by an 18-year-old Lincoln man was driving northbound on Antelope Valley Parkway when he changed lanes and accelerated rapidly to pass two vehicles. He hydroplaned on the wet road, drove up onto the curb, then lost control, spinning and sliding across into the southbound lane, colliding with a blue 2017 Nissan Frontier pickup truck driven by a 19-year-old Oklahoma man.

The driver of the car and his 15-year-old sister who was riding in the vehicle with him were both taken to a local hospital by Lincoln Fire & Rescue where they died from their injuries. The driver of the truck was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The victims’ names are not being released at this time out of respect for the family. Lincoln Public Schools (LPS) has confirmed both were students in the district and has communicated with families to provide LPS Crisis Team Support. Our thoughts are with all the families impacted by this tragedy.

The investigation is ongoing. LPD is asking any witnesses who saw the crash or have video of the incident to contact police at 402-441-6000 or if you want to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
