LPD Memorial Weekend Enforcement Project Begins May 23 | 2025

Published on May 19, 2025

The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) today announced it will conduct a high-visibility traffic enforcement project during the evenings of May 23, 24, and 25. To help ensure public safety, LPD will deploy additional officers during nighttime hours on “O” Street from 17th to 84th streets. Officers will focus on unsafe driving, trespassing in closed business lots, littering, noise complaints and alcohol-related offenses.

Memorial Day weekend has historically drawn crowds to the area of “O” Street between 44th and 52nd streets to observe and participate in the informal showcasing of unique automobiles. However, as the night progresses, LPD has routinely observed an increase in dangerous driving behaviors, including excessive speeding, reckless maneuvers, and violations that put both drivers and bystanders at risk.

The enforcement project is funded by a grant from our partners at the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.

LPD wants everyone to enjoy the holiday weekend and the safety of our community is our priority. Community members and motorists are reminded to be respectful of others, obey all traffic laws – including the new nuisance vehicle ordinance – and help make this a safe and enjoyable weekend for everyone in Lincoln.
