The Lincoln Police Department Northwest Team today announced it will conduct a traffic enforcement project in Lincoln’s northwest quadrant during May. Officers will focus on speeding, stop sign/red light violations, distracted driving, and other high-risk behaviors. The northwest area of Lincoln currently contains three of the top five highest crash locations in the city. Officers will focus on those areas during high-traffic times with the goal of increasing visibility, enforcing traffic laws, and ultimately reducing the number of crashes and traffic-related injuries. This project is funded entirely through funds provided by the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office and will not affect regular patrol staffing. Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, eliminate distractions, and always buckle up. Our goal is to prevent tragedies before they happen. Stay safe, stay sober, and help keep Lincoln’s roads free of impaired drivers.
