Additional officers patrolled areas that have high numbers of vehicle crashes, and that have generated a higher volume of resident reports regarding vehicles traveling at excessive speeds.
The project coincided with a national speed prevention traffic safety mobilization and was funded by a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation-Highway Safety Office.
Officers reported the highest speeds cited during each shift averaged 18 mph over the posted limit. The highest speed cited by officers was 85 mph in a 35 mph zone.
