LPD Reports Speed Prevention Project Results

The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) today reported the results of its traffic enforcement project that focused on speeding conducted July 11 through 31. Additional officers patrolled areas that have high numbers of vehicle crashes, and that have generated a higher volume of resident reports regarding vehicles traveling at excessive speeds.

The project coincided with a national speed prevention traffic safety mobilization and was funded by a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation-Highway Safety Office.

Officers reported the highest speeds cited during each shift averaged 18 mph over the posted limit. The highest speed cited by officers was 85 mph in a 35 mph zone.
