LPD Winter Traffic Safety Project Begins December 4 | 2025

Published on December 03, 2025

The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) today announced it will conduct a Winter Traffic Safety Project from December 4, 2025, through March 31, 2026. This enforcement effort is designed to reduce crashes during the winter months – traditionally one of the highest-risk periods for collisions.

Throughout the project, additional officers will work overtime to focus on the common factors that contribute to winter-related crashes including speeding, driving too fast for conditions, following too closely and failure to yield the right of way at intersections.

This operation is funded by a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office, whose continued support allows the Lincoln Police Department to dedicate additional resources to targeted traffic enforcement.

LPD encourages all drivers to slow down, increase following distance, use headlights, and avoid distractions as we start experiencing adverse winter weather.
