Lincoln Police Respond to Injury Crash | N. 27th and Vine Streets

Published on September 19, 2023

On Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at 12:01 a.m., a Lincoln Police officer attempted a traffic stop on a speeding Nissan Frontier on Nebraska Parkway as it approached S. 27th Street. The Frontier drove off northbound on S. 27th Street from that traffic stop. A pursuit was not initiated in an effort to minimize the risk of harm to the public.

At 12:02 a.m., two officers on an unrelated traffic stop near S. 27th and Sewell Streets, saw the Frontier speeding northbound on S. 27th Street. At 12:03 a.m., two other officers on an unrelated call in the 2600 block of Randolph Street also observed the Frontier continuing to speed northbound on S. 27th Street.

At 12:04 a.m., City traffic cameras observed the Frontier speed toward the intersection of N. 27th and Vine Streets. A Honda Civic was driving eastbound on Vine Street through the intersection with a green traffic signal. The Frontier violated the red traffic signal for northbound traffic as it entered the intersection and collided with the car. The Frontier then struck the building on the northeast corner of the intersection, ejecting all three occupants. Lincoln Police officers arrived in less than a minute and began providing medical care. Lincoln Fire & Rescue personnel then arrived and continued lifesaving efforts. The three occupants of the Frontier, two 19-year-old men and one 18-year-old man, were all taken to a local hospital in critical but stable conditions. The lone occupant of the second vehicle, a 20-year-old woman, was taken to a hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

The northbound lanes of N. 27th Street from Vine to W Streets will remain closed for the next couple of hours as the investigation is completed.
