The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) today released the results of a high-visibility enforcement project conducted May 1 through 14, coinciding with the final weeks of the academic year. During the campaign, officers worked overtime to monitor school zones throughout the city during morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal times. The primary objective of the initiative was to curb dangerous driving behaviors, reduce speed and ensure pedestrian safety where children are most vulnerable. The initiative was funded by a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) Highway Safety Office. The enforcement efforts resulted in 105 traffic stops, with officers issuing 117 official citations and 21 warnings. Multiple drivers were cited for traveling at speeds that more than doubled the school zone speed.
