Seatbelt Use Enforcement Project Begins November 22

Published on November 27, 2023

The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) today announced the Click it or Ticket seatbelt use enforcement project will run from Wednesday, November 22 through Sunday, November 26.

The project will be conducted throughout the city, focusing on areas with high injury crash rates. Officers will take a zero-tolerance approach to those choosing not to wear seatbelts. Violations of child restraint laws will also be highly enforced. The NDOT-Highway Safety Office is providing overtime funding for increased enforcement during this campaign.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 26,325 passenger vehicle occupants died in accidents in 2021. Fifty percent of those killed were not wearing seatbelts. Wearing seatbelts is the most effective thing drivers can do to save lives and reduce injuries on Lincoln streets. LPD’s goal is to continue enforcement and education efforts to help increase safety belt use statewide.

The Lincoln Police Department reminds drivers to reduce the risk of injury with a simple click – buckle up.
