The City of Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department and Saline Wetlands Conservation Partnership announced the temporary closure of the Frank Shoemaker Marsh for a habitat improvement project starting today, Friday, February 9, 2024. This work is estimated to be completed by March 15, 2024.
Frank Shoemaker Marsh is an approximately 156-acre saline wetland conservation area owned by the City of Lincoln. Construction services will be provided by Pruss Excavation for bank improvements along Little Salt Creek to enhance endangered species habitat, reduce erosion and sedimentation and improve stream stability.
Funding for this project is provided by the City of Lincoln, Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy through a Federal Section 319 grant and the Lower Platte South Natural Resources District. Total project cost for construction and engineering is approximately $200,000.
