Published on May 23, 2024

Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU) today announced its traffic plan for “O” Street from Friday, May 24 through Monday, May 27 to accommodate visitors to Lincoln for a classic car cruise and other events.

Traffic operations include:

  • Temporary modifications to signal timing to accommodate increases in traffic volumes that are similar to rush hour traffic
  • Closure of the left turn lane at the 50th and “O” streets intersection
  • Closure of the left turn lanes at the 46th and “O” streets intersection

The LTU plan is in conjunction with a Lincoln Police Department (LPD) high visibility traffic enforcement project from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday, May 24, Saturday, May 25, and Sunday, May 26. Additional officers will patrol “O” Street from 17th to 84th streets.

LTU and LPD shared safety tips for pedestrians and drivers that include:

  • Be prepared for heavier traffic.
  • Be a defensive driver and aware of other drivers around you.
  • Be aware of an increase in pedestrian activity.
  • Put down your phone.
  • Buckle your seatbelt and keep control of your vehicle.
  • Pedestrians should only use designated crosswalks.
  • Make sure there is adequate room on the sidewalk for people to walk. Pedestrians and onlookers are encouraged to stay back from the street.
  • Pedestrians should not ever enter the street to assist vehicles with “burnouts”.

Current information on street closures is also available at lincoln.ne.gov/closures or through the Waze mobile app.
