Parks and Recreation Free Track Meet Set for May 18

Variety of volunteer opportunities still available for event

The Parks and Recreation Department invites youth age 6 through 13 to a free track and field meet Saturday, May 18. The event will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at UBT Stadium, Lincoln Northwest High School, 1111 NW. 48th St. The registration deadline is May 13. Register online at teamsideline.com/lincolnne or at the Lincoln Parks and Recreation Team Sports offices, 3131 “O” St., Suite 300.

All participants may compete in two running and one field event, or one running and two field events. Participants in the age 8 and older divisions may also compete in a group relay event. Participants must be age 6 through 13 as of December 31, 2024.

The events are as follows:

  • Age 6 through 7: 50 meter dash, 100, meter dash, 200 meter dash, standing long jump, baseball throw
  • Age 8 through 9: 50 meter dash, 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, standing long jump, softball throw
  • Age 10 through 11: 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, 800 meter run, standing long jump, softball throw
  • Age 12 through 13: 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 800 meter run, 1600 meter run, running long jump, softball throw

“We love this annual free individual event that allows youth from all over Lincoln and surrounding communities to showcase their skills,” said Jay Jacox, Parks and Recreation Youth Sports Coordinator.

Ribbons will be awarded to the top four finishers in boys and girls divisions in each event. First through fourth place finishers in the age 8 and older divisions will advance to compete at the Nebraska Youth Track and Field Meet Championships June 8 in North Platte, NE.

Volunteers are still needed for a variety of duties, including participant check in, public address announcer, heat organizer, event workers, race starter, clerks, timers and more.
