Woods Park site remains open after fire
The Parks and Recreation Department today thanked Lincoln Fire and Rescue for quickly extinguishing a fire early Tuesday at the Woods Park storm debris site. A cause has not yet been determined and the site remains available for resident use.
“Thank you to Lincoln Fire and Rescue teams for quickly responding to the fire at the Woods collection site this morning,” said Maggie Stuckey-Ross, Lincoln Parks and Recreation Director. “Many have utilized our debris drop off sites after the July 31 storm. Parks and Forestry crews continue to work at condensing the collection sites while other staff are addressing each of the 1,000-plus reports of tree issues. We appreciate the community’s support and patience.”
Three debris collection sites will remain open through Monday, August 19. Residents may deposit storm debris at no cost at the following locations:
- Star City Shores, 4375 S. 33rd Court
- Woods Park, south lot off of “J” Street
- Oak Lake Park, Sun Valley Boulevard and Charleston Street
The Parks Department offers free wood chip mulch on a first-come, first-served basis at three locations in Lincoln. The mulch may not be used for commercial purposes. The locations include:
- Bowling Lake Park parking lot, NW. 48th and West Cuming streets
- Fleming Fields parking lot, 31st Street and Leighton Avenue
- Holmes Lake Park, parking lot five, 70th Street and North Shore Drive
Grinding operations will continue at the Holmes Lake site, 70th and North Shore Drive, and then move to Woods Park, 33rd and “J” streets. When grinding is completed at Woods Park, crews will then move to Oak Lake Park. Crews are expected to begin hauling tree debris Wednesday from the Seng Park site to Star City Shores collection site.
