Controlled Burn in Wilderness Park Scheduled for November 13

Published on November 12, 2025

Parks and Recreation staff will conduct a controlled burn of about 9 acres at the Pioneers Boulevard trailhead in Wilderness Park from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, November 13.

The parking lot and Yellow Trail from markers 17 to 18 will be closed until noon Friday November 14.

Community members are advised to avoid the area during this project. Aaron Druery, Parks and Recreation Greenways District Supervisor, said that controlled burns are a tool to manage large areas of native plants and grasses, reduce wildfire risk, and enhance wildlife habitat. Parks staff monitor weather and air quality conditions to ensure safe burns.
