Public Invited to 48th Street Project Open House December 4
Published on November 17, 2025
Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU) invites community members to an open house Thursday, December 4, regarding transportation improvements to 48th Street between Normal and Cotner boulevards. The event will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lefler Middle School media room, 1100 South 48th St.
This Lincoln on the Move project would include a mill and overlay of the existing surface, curb and gutter and base repairs where required, joint and crack sealing, public utility adjustments, pavement markings and inlet top replacements. Additional work with other funding sources would include upgrades to the existing curb ramps to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.
The existing traffic signal control would be removed at the intersection of 48th and Sumner streets. Intersection improvements being considered at this intersection include either a two-way stop, or a mini roundabout with a raised central island and additional signage and pavement markings. The traffic signal pole in the northeast corner of 48th Street and Normal Boulevard would also be reconstructed as part of this project.
This work is being coordinated with a water main replacement project in that area.
This improvement project is estimated to cost $2.05 million. Construction funding would come from a combination of Lincoln on the Move and Highway Allocation Funds. Construction is anticipated to take place in 2026 and 2027.
Residents are invited to attend and present relevant comments and questions. Design information will be displayed and personnel from the City of Lincoln and the design team will be present to answer questions and receive comments.
