Parks and Recreation staff will conduct a controlled burn of about 65 acres at the western end of the Pioneers Park Nature Center near the bison viewing area from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 29.
The Pioneers Park Suspension and Prairie Corridor Trail bridges in the Haines Branch area will be closed from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Community members are advised to avoid the area during this project. Aaron Druery, Parks and Recreation Greenways District Supervisor, said that controlled burns are a tool to manage large areas of native plants and grasses, reduce wildfire risk, and enhance wildlife habitat. Parks staff monitor weather and air quality conditions to ensure safe burns.
