City Provides Street and Utility Project Updates

• 17th Street from “A” to “S” Street Improvement and Water Main Replacement – These two projects, completed earlier this summer, included the replacement of a water main, new street surface, base repairs where required, joint and crack sealing, public utility adjustments, pavement markings, bike lane, and inlet top replacements. Additional work with other funding sources included upgrades to the existing curb ramps to comply with Federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.

• Van Dorn Street between 91st and 98th Streets – This project, completed in spring, included installation of a 16-inch water main on the north side of Van Dorn Street from 98th Street to a proposed roundabout at 103rd Street.

• First Street and Oak Creek Bridge – Crews are making surface and structural repairs to the First Street Bridge over Oak Creek. The work includes the bridge abutment, approach slabs, girders, guardrail, and deck surface treatments. The bridge is expected to reopen to traffic by July 18.

• West “A” Street from West City Limits to SW 23rd Street – This is one of the largest infrastructure projects in City history. Improvements include upgraded street, utilities, water and wastewater systems, and a new bike path. Crews have completed pavement and are now finishing sidewalk and bike trail pours, along with backfilling. Permanent signage, striping, and grading will be next, weather permitting. The street is expected to open to traffic in late July or early August.

• Northwest 12th Street from West Adams Street to West Highland Boulevard Street Improvements – Lincoln on the Move is investing in upgrades along Northwest 12th Street between West Adams Street and West Highland Boulevard. Railroad crossings were removed in 2024. Crews are nearly complete with concrete repairs and replacements between West Highland Boulevard and Kingbird Road. The next phase of the project will include concrete repairs at the intersection of Northwest 12th and West Adams streets, and between West Bond Street and West Upland Avenue. This project is scheduled to be completed in fall 2025.

• 40th Street from “A” to “O” Water Main Replacement – The project will install a new 16-inch water main, replacing the existing 6-inch and 16-inch water mains along 40th Street between “A” and “O” streets. Crews are continuing boring work for the water main between “A” and Randolph streets. Street improvements will follow once water main installation is complete. The water main project is scheduled to be completed in fall 2025.

• 56th Street from Spruce to Van Dorn Street Improvements – This street improvement project will enhance pavement conditions and infrastructure along 56th Street between Spruce and Van Dorn streets. Crews are actively progressing with improvements and have started paving the southbound outside lane just south of Pioneers Boulevard. Next, they will begin work on the north side between Pioneers Boulevard and Calvert Street. This project is scheduled to be completed in fall 2025.

• Adams Street from 36th to 41st Streets Water Main Replacement – This project will replace water mains in the area of Adams Street between 36th and 41st streets. Work on Adams Street is complete. Crews are currently coordinating efforts on 35th Street before proceeding with service connections. This project is scheduled to be completed in fall 2025.

• Adams Street from 38th to 49th Streets Improvement Project – The street improvement project along Adams Street between 38th and 49th streets aims to preserve and extend the service life of existing infrastructure while enhancing safety through safety-conscious design. Crews are currently pouring the westbound lane between 46th and 48th streets, with the eastbound lane next in sequence. Some paving remains, along with finish work in this section. This project is scheduled to be completed in winter 2025/2026.

• Cotner Boulevard and Adams Street Traffic Signal Replacement – Signal replacements at the intersection of Adams Street, Cotner Boulevard, and 66th Street are progressing steadily. Crews are currently installing signal poles and constructing pole bases as part of ongoing improvements. This project is scheduled to be completed in fall 2025.

• Lyncrest Neighborhood Water Main Replacement and Eastridge Neighborhood Street Improvements – This project replaced the water main in the Eastridge and Lyncrest Neighborhoods and will improve residential streets in the Eastridge Neighborhood. With water main work now complete, crews have begun street improvements, starting with curb ramp and concrete work near Eastridge Elementary School. This project is scheduled to be completed in winter 2025/2026.

• Nebraska Parkway from 48th to 56th Street Improvements – This project will improve Nebraska Parkway between 48th and 56th streets. Crews have removed pavement from the westbound lanes and are currently preparing the subgrade. The next phase of work will involve pouring new concrete to rebuild the roadway. This project is scheduled to be completed in winter 2025/2026.

• Normal Boulevard from 33rd to 70th Street Improvements – Lincoln on the Move is investing in improvements to approximately three miles of Normal Boulevard between 33rd and 70th streets. Crews have completed pavement repairs between 33rd and 56th streets and finished milling work in the eastbound lane between 56th and 62nd streets, with concrete repairs now underway. Signal upgrades at 40th and Normal are progressing, and a new signal is scheduled to be activated later this week. Crews continue work around several traffic signals in the area. The eastbound lane between 48th and 56th streets is currently closed (no head-to-head traffic), and Normal Boulevard between Van Dorn and 70th streets will shift to a full closure starting Wednesday, July 16. This project is scheduled to be completed in fall 2025.

• Pine Lake Road from 14th to 32nd Street Improvements – Lincoln on the Move is investing in improvements to Pine Lake Road between 14th and 32nd streets. The next phase of this project may begin as early as this week and includes reopening the intersection at 20th and Pine Lake Road. Head-to-head traffic will shift south, from 22nd Street to just west of 27th Street, for what is anticipated to be the final head-to-head segment of the project. Once this phase is complete, remaining pavement repairs will be completed under lane closures. This project is scheduled to be completed in spring 2026.

• Pound Middle School Neighborhood Street Improvements – This project involves street improvements in the Pound Middle School Neighborhood, including milling and overlaying existing pavement, base repairs as needed, and upgrades to curb ramps to meet ADA requirements. Crews are now making repairs along Gertie Avenue, with completion expected by July 25. Once finished, pavement markings will remain to wrap up the project. This project is scheduled to be completed in fall 2025.

• Vintage Heights Neighborhood Street Improvements – This project will repair concrete pavement on several streets throughout the Vintage Heights Neighborhood. Some locations have already been completed, others are planned, and additional streets are still being evaluated. Streets currently under construction include sections of 91st Street and Glass Ridge Drive. The full project area will be updated on the website as additional locations are confirmed. This project is scheduled to be completed in fall 2025.

• Temporary Surface Maintenance on “A” Street and Randolph Street – LTU is planning temporary surface maintenance on “A” Street and Randolph Street ahead of full street improvement projects scheduled for 2027 and 2028. This work will help extend the lifespan of both roadways in advance of future upgrades. Maintenance is anticipated to begin within the next week and will include milling and overlaying lanes on “A” Street between South 40th Street and Cotner Boulevard, and Randolph Street between 29th and 37th streets. Pavement markings will also be replaced. Each maintenance area is expected to take seven days or less to complete.

• Adjustment of traffic signal timing: LTU continues to monitor conditions in affected arterial corridors and adjust signal timing when possible.
• Maintain open lanes: LTU prioritizes keeping at least one lane open, whenever possible, to maintain smooth traffic flow. 
• Minimize closure duration: LTU aims to limit the number of days that streets are closed by planning and scheduling work as efficiently as possible. 
• Hold contractors accountable: LTU holds contractors responsible for meeting deadlines and requires them to adhere to agreed-upon timelines. Their progress is closely monitored to address any delays promptly. 
• Maximize summer scheduling: While most large street improvement projects extend beyond summer due to their complexity, LTU specifically uses the summer period to minimize the impact on school and other event traffic.
