Mayor Chris Beutler, U.S. Cellular Award $35,000 Grant to Lincoln Action Program

April 30, 2008
Mayor Chris Beutler and U.S. Cellular helped kickoff May's National Community Action Program Month with a $35,000 grant to the Lincoln Action Program. The donation will benefit Lincoln Action Program's Career Advancement Training, which teaches low-income individuals how to find, apply for, secure and retain employment. Mayor Beutler spoke March 31 to members of Boy Scout Troop 8 who were earning their "Citizenship in the Community" badges.


Antelope Valley Park to be Named Union Plaza

March 13, 2008
Mayor Beutler announced March 13 that the new park being developed as part of the Antelope Valley Project will be named Union Plaza to recognize a major donation by Union Bank and Trust. Fifth-graders from Elliott Elementary sang a song they wrote called "Look for the Good."

Mayor Kicks Off Neighborhood Initiative

March 6, 2008
Mayor Beutler announced the Stronger Safer Neighborhoods Initiative at a news conference March 6. He was joined by, from the left, Scott Baird, Near South Neighborhood Association; Cathie Petsch, Lincoln Community Learning Centers; Police Chief Tom Casady; Michael Snodgrass, NeighborWorks Lincoln; (Mayor Beutler); Rick Carter, Human Services Federation; Wynn Hjermstad, Urban Development; new Mayoral Aide Jon Carlson; and Lynn Fischer, Real Estate Owners and Managers Association.


Homeless Grants Awarded

March 6, 2008
Mayor Beutler was joined by representatives of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) at a news conference March 6 to announce that five local agencies will receive a total of $1.6 million in grants for homeless services. Others receiving grants were the Lincoln Action Program, St. Monica’s, CEDARS and Catholic Social Services.
