Mayor Coleen J. Seng today recognized the Lincoln Police Department for its state accreditation by the Police Chiefs Association of Nebraska. The Police Department applied for the accreditation program in June 2003 and was found to be in compliance with all applicable standards during an on-site review. The Association’s executive board approved the accreditation September 21, and its President, Chief Charles Headley of Aurora, presented the accreditation award this morning.
“This award is significant for our Department,” said Lincoln Police Chief Tom Casady. “We network every day with other Nebraska law enforcement agencies, and together we strive to make Nebraska a safer place to live and work. Accreditation recognizes exemplary policies and procedures, operational effectiveness and efficiency, excellent community relations and commitment to hiring and retaining dedicated employees. Agencies who achieve accreditation set an example of professional excellence in the state of Nebraska.”
The Lincoln Police Department has also been nationally accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies since 1989. It was the first agency in Nebraska to be nationally accredited.
