Registration begins today for the summer day camps offered by the City Parks and Recreation Department. Registration forms are available at parks.lincoln.ne.gov and at City recreation centers. Camps begin June 7 at these locations:
Registration for the Bethany Park and McPhee CLC sites also can be completed at the Playgrounds Office inside the "F" Street Community Center, 1225 "F" Street. Camps run weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m and will end at most locations August 13. The fee is $100 per week, and families can register for individual weeks. Sliding fees, scholarships and multiple child discounts are available for families who qualify. A $10 deposit is required with registration.
Recreation Manager Sandy Myers said Parks and Recreation has offered summer programs for children since the 1940s. Last year, more than 700 participated.
"Program themes vary across locations, but at all our camps, parents and kids can expect large group games and activities, skill building and City-wide field trips," Myers said. "At the same time, the camps allow for individual exploration of interests. Our goal is to promote physical and social development, learning skills and the exploration of lifelong leisure activities." Myers said activities will include swimming, community service, reading programs, team games and individual sports.
