The public is invited to participate in the first Pioneers Park Prairie Run at 9 a.m. Saturday, November 9 at the Pioneers Park Nature Center (PPNC), 3201 S. Coddington Ave. The event is a fund-raiser for the PPNC's land management program that restores and maintains the prairie areas. The run will take participants through the northern and western sections of the prairie.
The cost is $10 for the one-mile run for children (ages five through 12) and $20 for the 5K run for teens and adults. Runners can sign up at GetMeRegistered.com or call the PPNC at 402-441-7895. The registration deadline is November 8, and all those who register by November 1 will receive a tee shirt. No registrations will be accepted the day of the event. Packets will be available for pick-up from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, November 8 at PPNC or from 8 to 8:30 a.m. the day of the event.
"We hope the public will take advantage of this opportunity to experience the Nature Center in a whole new way," said Nancy Furman, Nature Center Coordinator. "They may see bison and elk grazing, birds flying overhead or critters scurrying through the grasses. It's a great event to help us promote the enjoyment, appreciation and awareness of our great plains natural environment."
The event will occur rain or shine. It is not a timed event, but all runners will be entered into the prize drawing. Prize donors are Whole Foods, The Running Company, Meadowlark Coffee & Espresso and Indigo Books.
