What should I expect during my clinic visit and examination?

  • Laboratory tests will be done and may include a finger stick and a blood draw.
  • Intake information will be gathered by a Registered Nurse.
  • An Advanced Practice Registered Nurse will review health history and perform a physical examination related to sexual health. Oral and rectal testing will be offered. Those with a vagina will receive a pelvic exam and those with a penis will be asked for a urine sample (must not have urinated at least one hour prior to collection).
  • HIV (rapid) test results will be given, sexual health protection and maintenance options will be discussed, and partner services will be offered by a Disease Intervention Specialist.
  • Instructions on how to receive STI test results will be given by a Registered Nurse.
  • If indicated, certain treatments may be provided during the visit at no additional cost. Written prescriptions must be purchased at your local pharmacy.
  • If indicated, resources and referrals will be provided.

What if my test result is positive after using the Express STD Clinic?

When you call for test results, a Registered Nurse will schedule an appointment for a physical exam, additional testing and treatment. Testing for other STIs is highly recommended as you can have more than one infection at the same time. Additional fees will apply. Sexual Health Clinic hours are listed above.

What if my test result is negative after using the Express STD Clinic but I am still having symptoms?

Express STD Clinic only tests for two sexually transmitted infections through a urine sample: Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. You may have other STIs in addition, and at other sites. We recommend visiting our next Sexual Health Clinic for additional testing, treatment, health education, counseling, and referral. Additional fees will apply.

What about my partner?

It is very important that all sexual partners are tested and treated, not only for their health, but to stop the spread of infection. We encourage you to talk to your partner about visiting our Sexual Health Clinic, visiting their own doctor, or calling our clinic to talk to a nurse at the number listed above.

When can I begin having sex after visiting the Sexual Health Clinic?

You should not have any sexual contact until lab results have been finalized, treatments for you and your partner(s) have been completed, and symptoms have resolved.
