Child Care Program Operator and Staff Training Requirements (L.M.C. 8.14)

All staff must complete 2 hours of health and safety training within 30 days of employment and every two years thereafter. The operator shall maintain an up to date list of all (full, part time and substitute) employees and training received. In addition, staff responsible for receiving, holding or preparing food must hold at least a Prep/Cook Food Handler Permit. Staff only serving food must practice no bare hand contact for ready-to-eat foods. To register or access food safety information visit our food safety page.

Child Care Health and Safety Training

This free two hour course fulfills the health and safety training requirements and is approved as an equivalent to the State of Nebraska’s Prepare to Care Health and Safety Training. To register, click on this link at least 3 business days in advance. Walk-ins (those not registered) will not be allowed. Trainings are currently offered via Zoom. When registering, please ensure all fields are completed. After successful registration, registrants will receive a confirmation email message. Course materials will be emailed 3-5 business days prior to the training and a certificate will be emailed to the participant upon successful participation and completion of the course.

Training Documentation

Each child care program is responsible for tracking and documenting staff training requirements. The Environmental Health Specialist may review training records during and inspection. In order to keep track of required trainings, please use this link(DOCX, 35KB) to acquire the document.
