Lincoln on the Move is investing in improvements to approximately one mile of 70th Street from Pioneers to Van Dorn streets. These improvements include concrete panel replacement, curb and gutter repair, and replacement of inlet tops. Additional work with other funding sources includes rebuilding the traffic signal at 70th and Van Dorn streets, improvements to bus stop pads, and upgrades to the existing curb ramps to comply with the Federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
This project is programmed as a part of the commitment to voters to invest significant sales tax funds into improvement of existing streets. The project will be funded jointly from the Highway Allocation Funds (aka-Gas Tax) and ¼ cent sales tax for streets in accordance with ballot language.
Construction is anticipated to take place in 2027.
70th Street will remain open with one lane in each direction throughout construction. Work will occur one side at a time, with two-way traffic shifted to the opposite side. Some turning movements at signalized intersections may be restricted.
Billy Wolff Trail will be closed from Holmes Park North Shore Rd. to Normal Blvd. during a portion of construction. An alternate route will be maintained through Holmes Lake Park.
