Lincoln on the Move is investing in improvements to 84th Street from Pinedale Avenue to Sandalwood Drive. These improvements will include a mill and overlay of the existing surface and concrete repairs. Additional work with other funding sources will include upgrades to the existing curb ramps to comply with the Federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
This project is programmed as a part of the commitment to voters to invest significant sales tax funds into improvement of existing streets. The project will be funded jointly from the Highway Allocation Funds (aka-Gas Tax) and ¼ cent sales tax for streets in accordance with ballot language.
Construction is taking place in 2024.
The intersection of 84th and “A” streets opened to traffic on August 23, 2024. 84th Street between “O” and Van Dorn streets is open with lane closures to complete pavement repairs on 84th Street between Sandalwood Drive and “A” Street. The closures are as follows:
The lane closures will start in the inside lanes and then switch to the outside lanes once work on the inside lanes is completed.
Travelers are encouraged to seek an alternate route and exercise caution around these lane closures. LTU appreciates the public’s patience during these closures and reminds residents that project dates are subject to change due to weather and unforeseen circumstances.
A public open house was held regarding improvements on 84th Street from Pinedale Avenue to Sandalwood Drive.

High heat and humidity stretches forced workers to take multiple breaks during the peak heat of the day in order to avoid heat exhaustion and sickness.
Lincoln Transportation and Utilities works to balance progress on projects with day to day construction impacts. A noise ordinance does not allow for construction to be completed during overnight hours to reduce the noise impact to the surrounding neighborhoods and area.
Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU) works hard to provide timely and efficient projects around Lincoln to minimize inconveniences for drivers and work efficiently to reduce costs of projects. These projects are crucial to continuing to offer quality infrastructure for years to come. LTU holds all contractors accountable when contracts are not met and works with their project partners to ensure the project is completed and meets all City standards.
With dry conditions, any aggregate surfaced road produces dust when traveled. There is an increased amount of traffic on 112th to surrounding County and City projects. By slowing down, the traveling public can help with the amount of dust produced.
There is currently a Lancaster County Engineers project on 98th Street in progress.
With a growing community and limited time for construction season, sometimes projects will end up overlapping. While coordination and planning efforts with County and State partners are made to limit the conflicts between project, LTU will work to continue to invest long-term in creating the most efficient transportation system possible.
