This project paved South Folsom Street from West Old Cheney Road to ¼ mile south to serve the growing development in this area. Other project work included a new roundabout at South Folsom Street and West Palm Canyon Drive, new storm sewer, new sidewalks with curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities compliance and utility work.
As a part of the City’s commitment in the Southwest Village Heights 1st Addition - W Folsom St & W Old Cheney Rd annexation agreement of August 2018, this project will promote private sector investment into the community by helping serve 420 approved additional dwelling units and another 1,500 potential future units and additional commercial space through improving safety and capacity of the transportation system.
This project was approved March 30, 2020 to receive a portion of the 25% of the revenues reserved for construction of new non-residential streets in accordance with ballot language to promote private sector investment after receiving a recommendation from the Advisory Committee on Transportation.
The City already had several annexation agreements with developers regarding new streets in “growth” areas. However, many of these street projects could not get underway due to a lack of funding. The portion of the sales tax for new street construction to promote private sector investment helped move these projects forward.
Construction took place in 2021 and 2022.
