The purpose of this project is to preserve and extend the service life of existing facilities and enhance safety by using safety conscious design. The improvements would satisfy existing and future traffic needs and conditions in a manner conducive to safety, durability, and economy of maintenance. The need of the project is to address curb and pavement conditions; narrow pavement; curb ramps; inlet tops; address crash rates and delay times at intersections; and appropriate pedestrian crossing devices.
This project would rehabilitate approximately 1.25 miles of Randolph Street between Capitol Parkway and 40th Street. This project would consist of a mill and overlay of Randolph Street from Capitol Parkway to 40th Street and repair pavement base as needed. It would reconstruct pedestrian ramps as necessary to meet federal and local standards and would also reconstruct inlet tops and curb and gutter. The project would study roundabout feasibility at the intersections of 33rd & Randolph and 40th & Randolph, which may result in the construction of roundabouts. The project would also analyze the pedestrian crossing near 37th Street, which may result in the removal of the pedestrian signal and installation of a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB). The existing width of Randolph would be verified to meet minimum standards.
Construction is tentatively planned to occur in 2026.
