Randolph Street Project Open House set for November 13

Published on October 30, 2025

Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU) invites community members to an open house Thursday, November 13, regarding transportation improvements to Randolph Street between Capitol Parkway and South 40th Street. The event will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Antelope Park Enclosed Shelter, 1650 Memorial Dr.

“The proposed project would preserve and extend the service life of Randolph Street and enhance driver and pedestrian safety,” said Liz Elliott, Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Director. “The improvements would meet future traffic needs in a manner conducive to safety, durability, and economy of maintenance. The need for this project is based on current declining conditions of the street’s infrastructure and traffic signals.”

Improvements would include widening the existing street to meet minimum design standard lane widths, reconstructing curb and gutter, street pavement base repairs (where needed), and milling and resurfacing the street. The project would also include driveway reconstruction for commercial and residential properties as well as reconstruction of non-compliant curb ramps to meet current LTU and Americans with Disabilities Act standards.

Sidewalks would be reconstructed at intersections and driveways. Compact single-lane roundabouts with mountable center islands are planned at South 33rd Street and South 40th Street. Additional improvements would include pedestrian safety enhancements with the installation of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons and crosswalk pavement markings at the Billy Wolff Trail crossing, and a midblock pedestrian crossing east of South 36th Street.

The proposed improvement project is estimated to cost $4.5 million. Construction funding would come from a combination of local and federal funding sources. Construction could begin as early as spring 2027 and be completed as early as the spring of 2028.

Residents are invited to attend and present relevant comments and questions. Design information will be displayed and personnel from the City of Lincoln and the design team will be present to answer questions and receive comments.
