Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU) invites residents to a design open house on Thursday, September 11, regarding proposed improvements to the intersection of North First Street and Cornhusker Highway. The event will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the West Lincoln Elementary School Gymnasium, Door 9, 630 West Dawes Ave.
The proposed project would include replacing the intersection’s traffic signals and related infrastructure, as well as reconstructing nearby pavement, sidewalks, a trail, and curb ramps to allow for smooth traffic flow in both directions. This project would consist of reviewing traffic counts, pedestrian activity, and sight distance requirements, identifying the type of control and paving needed, and construction activities.
The proposed improvement project is estimated to cost $3.8 million. Construction funding would come from a combination of Highway Allocation Funds and federal funding sources. Construction could begin as early as 2027.
Community members are invited to attend and present relevant comments and questions. Design information will be displayed and personnel from the City of Lincoln and the design team will be present to answer questions and receive comments.
