Bus Passenger Behavior Policy

Failure to comply with the rules below may result in appropriate legal and/or disciplinary actions, including suspension from riding StarTran services.

  1. Use headphones with all audio devices.
  2. Violent, lewd, and inappropriate behavior are not permitted on the bus or at bus stops. This includes, but is not limited to, fighting, throwing things, pushing, shouting, spitting, and vulgar language.
  3. Respect StarTran’s property. Littering and vandalism are not permitted on the bus or at bus stops.
  4. Smoking, vaping, alcohol, illegal drugs, guns and other weapons are not permitted on the bus or at bus stops.
  5. Seats at the front of the bus are traditionally reserved for seniors and persons with disabilities; please give them up when necessary.
  6. Those traveling with strollers should utilize the priority seating area with the stroller brakes locked while the bus is in motion. Children must be secured in the stroller, and an adult must remain with the stroller at all times. Strollers must not block aisles or doorways, and must be held on to at all times.
  7. Children must be removed from car seats prior to riding unless the car seat is fastened to a stroller and the child is secured within the car seat. Children not in a stroller capable of sitting on their own must sit in a seat and not on an adult’s lap.
  8. When boarding the bus, move quickly to a seat and remain seated. If you must stand, stand away from the doors and behind the yellow line at the front of the bus.
  9. Conversations with the driver that distract him/her from the safe operation of the bus must be kept to a minimum.
  10. Passengers are required to obey reasonable requests from the driver and other authorized StarTran representatives.
  11. Keep aisles clear. Empty strollers and other packages must be kept under the seats.
  12. E-bikes and scooters may not be carried onto StarTran buses or stowed on bike racks unless used as a mobility device.
  13. Pull the stop request cord one block prior to your desired stop. Do not pull the cord repeatedly.
  14. Do not walk in front of the bus. Wait until the bus pulls away from the stop to cross the street. Be sure to look both ways before crossing.
  15. Federal regulations prohibit the transportation of flammable or explosive materials, including fireworks, on transit buses. This includes automobile batteries. (Electric mobility device battery packs and portable oxygen tanks are exempt from this requirement.)
  16. StarTran is not liable for any lost or stolen items. Be sure to check your seat and the bike rack before exiting the bus to ensure you have all of your personal belongings!
  17. Eating and drinking is not permitted on the bus. Only spill-proof containers, such as tumblers, travel mugs with locking lids, and water bottles, are allowed on the bus. Disposable coffee cups, open cups, fast food drink cups, and any other containers that are prone to spills are not permitted.
  18. Service animals are permitted to ride the bus with their handler. Emotional Support Animals (ESAs) and other pets must be in an enclosed carrier. If any animal exhibits threatening, unsafe, or out of control behavior, it will not be permitted to ride the bus. For additional information please refer to the Animal Policy.
  19. All personal belongings must be removed from bikes prior to stowing the bike on the bike racks.
  20. Bus operator assault is a crime. Threats or intimidation of operators is strictly prohibited.

Report any questions, problems, or concerning behavior to the bus driver or the StarTran front office. In case of emergency, please dial 911.
