Safe Streets Lincoln is the result of the City's long-standing commitment to improving transportation safety. Building on years of work by Lincoln Transportation and Utilities, Planning and Development Services, Parks and Recreation, and the Police Department, the City brought these efforts together into a coordinated action plan to reduce traffic deaths and serious injuries.
In the last few years, the City has continued to design and implement safety improvements to address City priorities. The following safety projects were completed in the three to four years leading to the completion of the Vision Zero Action Plan.
Common Safe Routes to School (SRTS) elements implemented across multiple locations include: establishing primary walking routes; installing or refreshing crosswalk markings and stop lines; implementing parking restrictions; constructing ADA-accessible curb ramps; installing signing to improve visibility; and establishing 20 mph school zones when children are present, unless otherwise noted.
