About the Sculpture

Installed in 2012, by artist Michael Morgan and University of Nebraska-Lincoln graduate student Matt Blache, the 27th Street Hearth stands 14 feet tall near the Elaine Hammer Bridge on the Mopac Trail. He worked with 15 middle and high school students to make the bricks, who will make designs such as handprints and footprints. Morgan then used those bricks to create the large archway. The sculpture ultimately adds an interesting visual to the natural landscape with natural materials.
