Elephant

A metal elephant amid flowers and grass

About the Sculpture

Elephant was purchased as part of the Hazel Abel Park renovations in 2007, in order to pay homage to the elephant topiary that had be damaged and removed. It is a weathering steel sculpture depicting a baby elephant created by Denis Curtiss. Sheets of flat metal are cut, then welded into triangulated shapes that assemble to a unique cubist sculpture that is extremely strong. Never static, Curtiss' animals are always in a state of movement.
