F Street Community Center Brick Mural

On the wall of F St Community Center is a brick mural with firefighters and kids playing basketball

About the Sculpture

The building which now houses the F Street Community Center was originally build as a fire station in 1924 and was converted in 1967 to a rec center. When the rec center was updated in 2002, this mural was added to the outside of the building near the main entrance. Jay Tschetter represented the center's history with figures of firemen on the left and children playing basketball on the right.

About the Artist

Jay Tschetter founded Images in Brick in 1987 when he saw a photo of a brick sculpture in an Endicott Brick brochure and saw the world of possibilities of working with brick. Tschetter worked as a mason and a scrimshander (ivory artist) for 15 years before developing an interest in brick sculpture. His experience as a mason and as a part time artist in Nebraska made brickwork the perfect career.
