Fountains

About the Sculptures

During the remodels of both Centennial Mall and Union Plaza, multiple fountains were added to the respective landscapes to continue the stories the parks tell. The Centennial Mall fountains tell the story of the past, present and future of Nebraska. The Union Plaza fountains tell the story of water and it's importance to the state and the city.

CENTENNIAL MALL

State Seal Fountain

This fountain features the State Seal of Nebraska engraved into the stone pavement with a round outside layer of water conserving nozzles for the water feature.

The Capitol building stands tall behind the streams of water of the State Seal Fountain

Engraved stones make up the Nebraska state seal on the ground.

Missouri River Fountain

This fountain showcases the river systems of the state, with the water feature mimicking where the Missouri River and the state of Nebraska interact. Major rivers, trails and railroads are identified within the outline of the state. The star plaques within the map represent the county seats, and the bear track plaques represent the Ponca Trail of Tears the Ponca followed after being forcibly removed from Oklahoma in 1877.

Imagination Fountain

This fountain rests beside the Lincoln Children's Museum and the streams of water that come out of the bricks in an arch formation represent sparks of imagination and creativity.

UNION PLAZA

Dean and Pat Muhleisen Memorial Fountain

This memorial fountain represents water's impact on the development of Lincoln. The water emerges from what appears to be cracked earth and the pavement includes ripple patterns to show the water's impact on the area around it.

Union Bank CEO Angie Muhleisen made a donation to Union Plaza and in turn the fountain was named in Ardene "Dean" and Patty Muhleisen's honor. The couple had passed in a car accident in 2002.

Streams of water shoot upward from a stair-raised platform with rocks scattered through the streams.

Ken Good Fountain

The Ken Good fountain represents a rain or snow storm. Water flows from the top basin into the lower to represent the rain waters seeping into the ground and replenishing the ground water for the region.

Three poles rise from a pool of water each with waterfall coming out of the top cross beam.

A fountain that features three poles with a crossbar at the top, where the water would come from.

Windstream Fountain

The Windstream fountain is dynamic as it collects water to form a whirl pool in the conch shaped basin, where the water is then pushed back into the air by a jet.

In the foreground purple flowers rise in front of the water rising from a fountain and a bridge and grass stands in the background.

The conch shaped fountain is made of stones, with the words Windstream Fountain in raised letters on the outside.
