Travel Demand Model

The travel demand model was updated in 2019 in-conjunction with the 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) to study impacts that household and employment growth will have on congestion. The PlanForward preferred growth scenario was used to input data for each Traffic Analysis Zone (TAZ) into the model. This information is used to support trip generation estimates for work, shopping and other transportation needs. The future year models (2035 and 2050) were developed using the Existing + Committed (E+C) roadway network—that is, the existing network plus those improvement projects with committed funding to begin construction over the next six years. These projects were verified in September 2020 and include roadway improvements, intersection improvements, and Priority Growth Projects.

The charts below show congestion levels over time as projected in the LRTP. For citywide maps with projected daily traffic forecasts and congestion levels see the LRTP pages 4-36 to 4-39.

Interactive Map

For current and projected traffic counts at on specific segments of arterial streets and above see the interactive map below. Existing + Committed projections reflect estimated future traffic volume based on roadway projects that have funding committed and are starting construction in the next six years. Fiscally Constrained projections are estimates assuming roadway projects are built as identified in the LRTP fiscally constrained plan through 2050. For questions or for traffic counts for locations not shown on the map email mpo@lincoln.ne.gov or call 402-441-7491.
