Long Range Transportation Plan

2050 Plan - 2026 Update

Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) Update

The LRTP provides the blueprint for multimodal transportation planning in Lincoln and Lancaster County. The LRTP and associated travel demand model are updated by the MPO at least every 5 years. For this update, the horizon year of 2050 will remain the same but the content of the plan and model will be updated. The LRTP Update must be adopted by the MPO Officials Committee by December 2026.

Lincoln Mobility Plan

The Lincoln Mobility Plan will encompass an update to the 2013 Pedestrian and Bicycle Capital Plan and the 2019 Lincoln Bike Plan. It will show a comprehensive transportation network that utilizes a variety of facilities such as pathways, trails, bike lanes, bicycle boulevards, shared streets, sidewalks, and enhanced crossings. The Mobility Plan will be developed at the same time as the LRTP Update and its recommendations will be reflected in the LRTP. The goal for Mobility Plan completion is April 2026.

2050 Plan

The Lincoln Metropolitan Planning Organization's (MPO) 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) provides the blueprint for the area's transportation planning process over the next 29 years. The transportation planning process is a collaborative effort between the City of Lincoln, Lancaster County, the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT), StarTran transit and other agencies, where the multimodal transportation system were evaluated and a set of recommendations were made with extensive public input. This Transportation Plan meets all federal requirements and addresses the goals, objectives, and strategies to meet the community's vision for the future. It was developed in coordination with PlanForward, the Lincoln-Lancaster 2050 Comprehensive Plan.

Lincoln MPO's 2050 LRTP was adopted by the MPO on December 15, 2021.
