Red Light/Distracted Driving Traffic Enforcement Results

The Lincoln Police Department today released results of a traffic enforcement project conducted April 1 through 8. The project was a partnership with the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) to monitor red light violations and drivers distracted by cellphones.

This project, funded by a grant from the DOT Highway Safety Office, assigned additional traffic enforcement officers at intersections with high crash rates during heavy traffic times. Results from the overtime details are as follows:

In 2023, the Lincoln Police Department investigated more than 1,780 crashes where it was reported that at least one driver operated a motor vehicle in an inattentive, careless, negligent or erratic manner.
