Reporting a missing person immediately is critical to ensuring the best possible outcome. The sooner LPD is notified, the faster officers can begin gathering information, investigating leads and using specialized resources to locate the individual. Call to report: 402-441-6000 In an emergency: 911 TOOLS: Social media is one tool available to officers during a missing persons investigation. The decision to post on social media is made by supervisors and Duty Command on a case-by-case basis when it appears a person may be in danger of physical harm or due to other extenuating circumstances. AMBER Alerts and Endangered Missing Advisories are requested and issued when the case meets all criteria.
RESOURCES: The GINA For Missing Persons FOUNDation was started in honor of Gina Bos, who disappeared from Lincoln on October 17, 2000. Her case remained unsolved. In 2024, the foundation worked with state lawmakers to create Nebraska Missing Persons Day. The legislature unanimously passed LB1102 and it is now part of the Nebraska Revised Statutes.
