City Announces Snowplow Naming Contest Winners

Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU) today announced the winning names for the Name That Snowplow contest. Decals with the winning names will be placed on eight snowplows. The community should expect to see them in service by spring 2025. 

"We are thrilled to unveil the eight winning names from this year's Name That Snowplow contest," said Liz Elliott, LTU Director. "The creativity and enthusiasm behind each submission showcases the unique character of our community. It is exciting to see the community come together in such a fun and meaningful way." 

The winning names in order of vote totals are as follows: 

  • The Big LePlowski – submitted by Michael Maly, 259 votes 
  • Sleetwood Mac – submitted by Matthew Monnich, 224 votes 
  • Ctrl Salt Delete – submitted by Mark Fischer, 220 votes 
  • Betty Whiteout – submitted by Nikki Mandeville, 191 votes 
  • Buenos Snowches – submitted by Leigh Ann Palmer, 152 votes 
  • Han Snowlo – submitted by Justin Alger, 151 votes 
  • Plowabunga – submitted by Eric Bettger, 151 votes 
  • Sled Zeppelin – submitted by Norbert Pieper, 150 votes

"The response to the Name That Snowplow contest has been incredible, and we are thankful for the continued enthusiasm from the community," said Tim Byrne, LTU Maintenance Operations and Fleet Services Manager. "This contest provides a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the important work of our snowfighters, while also offering a unique way to bring our city together. We cannot wait to see these names on our snowplows." 

LTU invited community members to submit creative ideas for snowplow names in November. LTU Operations and Maintenance team members selected 25 finalists from 467 snowplow name submissions. Winners will receive a variety of LTU promotional materials, including reusable bags, seeds to support pollinators, writing supplies, stickers, educational guides, activity books with crayons, and bike lights.  

The eight winning snowplow names currently on snowplows from the 2023 Name That Snowplow Contest include: 

  • Clearopathra 
  • Scoop Dogg 
  • PlowyMcPlowface 
  • Darth Blader 
  • Austin Plowers 
  • Truck Norris 
  • AntiSnowcial 
  • Snow Big Red
