Patriot Day Ceremony set for September 11

Community members are invited to a free Patriot Day ceremony at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 11, at the Veterans Memorial Garden in Antelope Park, 3200 Veterans Memorial Dr.

Hosted by the Parks and Recreation Department and the Veterans Memorial Garden Advisory Council (VMGAC), the event honors first responders who died in the line of duty in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

The 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony will include members of the VMGAC posting a wreath by the Post 9/11 Monument, reading of the names on the Post 9/11 Monument by VMGAC Events Committee members Diane Bartels and Joyce Peck, and brief remarks by VMGAC Chairperson, Craig Anderson.

The wreath recognizes those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, as well as those who responded to the attacks on that day and since. In case of inclement weather, the garden event will be moved to the Auld Pavilion located just west of the garden.

Following the ceremony, the public is invited to participate in the 9/11 Memorial Act of Service Blood Drive until 1 p.m. at Lincoln Fire and Rescue Station 1, 1801 “Q” St. Sign up and reserve a timeslot atncbbherohub.club/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/76309.
