Lincoln and Lancaster County residents can dispose of unwanted chemicals at the last household hazardous waste collection effort of the year Friday, November 14. This collection is by appointment only, and residents can schedule a reservation by contacting the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department LLCHD at 402-441-8021. Callers will be asked to identify the types and approximate quantity of waste they plan to bring and will receive details on the time and location of the collection. Reservations are limited.
Accepted items include pesticides, household cleaning products, paint thinners, stains, polishes and waxes, turpentine, oil-based paint, pool cleaning chemicals, flea and tick powders, rodent poison, charcoal starter fluids, mixed or old gasoline, brake or power steering fluids, and items containing mercury such as CFLs and thermometers. Items that will not be accepted include latex paint, motor oil, fertilizers, gas grill cylinders, pharmaceutical waste, electronics and batteries. For information on recycling these and other materials, check the "Guide to Recycling" at recycle.lincoln.ne.gov.
The event is free to residents of Lincoln and Lancaster County. Donations are accepted the day of the collection.
