Mayor Don Wesely today said yesterday's death of former Lincoln School Board member Sally Wysong is a loss that will be felt by the entire city. He expressed his condolences to Wysong's husband David, their five children, and the rest of her family and friends.
"She was a great person. She had a great influence on countless children with her pre-school and her work on the school board," Mayor Wesely said. "She touched countless lives." The Mayor made his comments from Paris, where he is on his honeymoon.
At Wesely's request, Wysong and Joe Nigro have served as unpaid volunteer liaisons between the Mayor's office and officials with the Lincoln Public Schools since July of 1999.
Wysong was elected to the Lincoln School Board in 1991 and retired from the board in 1999. She operated an early childhood education center in northeast Lincoln for 31 years. She earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a masters degree in human development and early childhood education, both from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
