Mayor Chris Beutler today encouraged the public to participate in the Lincoln Unites! festival Saturday, April 30 at Tower Square, 13th and "P" streets in downtown Lincoln. A Walk of Unity will begin at 10 a.m. from Tower Square. The event also includes a naturalization ceremony, with 29 new Americans receiving their citizenship. The theme for the event is "Many Faces, One Lincoln."
"I want to thank the New Americans Task Force for coming up with the idea to celebrate Lincoln as a community that is welcoming to people of all nations and cultures," Mayor Beutler said.
Mayor Beutler will speak at about 10:45 a.m. and present a Welcoming City proclamation. The naturalization ceremony will begin at 11 am. The event also includes food, entertainment and informational displays. Lincoln High School students in the "Fork In The Road" project will share their stories of immigration throughout the day. Participants are encouraged to carry a flag or banner and to wear clothing that represents their heritage.
