Project Summary
Lincoln on the Move invested in improvements to approximately 1.3 miles of 17th Street from “A” to “S” streets. These improvements included a mill and overlay of the existing surface, base repairs where required, joint and crack sealing, public utility adjustments, pavement markings, and inlet top replacements. Additional work with other funding sources included upgrades to the existing curb ramps to comply with Federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
As part of the project, a buffered bike lane was added along the east curb line of 17th Street from “A” to “R” streets. To accommodate this addition, one northbound vehicular lane was removed, providing a single northbound travel lane. Bus stops remain along the east side of the street, with buses pulling into the bike lane for passenger boarding and drop-offs.
Non-metered parking along the corridor between “B” and “G” streets was shifted from the east curb to the west curb. Metered parking remains on the west side from “O” to “S” streets. This change allows for expanded parking capacity while maintaining access to transit services.
The south project limits were coordinated with the street improvement project on “A” Street from 6th to 17th streets, while the north project limits were coordinated with UNL.
Street improvement work was done in coordination with a water main replacement project on 17th Street from “A” to “H” and “K” to “O” streets.
