Union College Neighborhood Street Improvements

Project Summary

This project will improve several streets in the Union College Neighborhood through a mill and overlay of the existing surface and base repairs where required. Additional improvements will include pavement markings and updates to the existing curb ramps to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.

The following streets are included:

  • South 52nd Street Pioneers Boulevard to Calvert Street
  • South 51st Street from Pioneers Boulevard to Prescott
  • Prescott Avenue from South 48th to South 56th streets
  • Meredeth Street

This work is being coordinated with a water main replacement project, which will take place before the street resurfacing work begins. Additionally, some tree removal will take place prior to the beginning of roadway work.

Funding Details

This project is programmed as a part of the commitment to voters to invest significant sales tax funds into improvement of existing streets. The project will be funded jointly from the Street Improvement Vehicle Tax – Residential Rehab fund (aka-Wheel Tax) and ¼ cent sales tax for street in accordance with ballot language. Until more detailed information is known, the total project estimate and funding split is an assumption.

Construction is expected to take place in 2022, following the completion of a nearby water main replacement project.

Access During Construction

The roads will be closed to through traffic during construction. Access to individual properties will be maintained. The traveling public is encouraged to find alternative routes and to use the WAZE app for assistance.
