The public is invited to an open house from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 12 on the resurfacing of Van Dorn Street from 33rd to 48th streets. The meeting is in the commons area at Southeast High School, 2930 S. 37th Street. The project includes the widening of Van Dorn to one lane of travel in each direction with a center turn lane, as well as the reconstruction of sidewalk curb ramps to meet ADA requirements.
Van Dorn Street will be closed to traffic during construction, which is expected to begin May 26. The street is expected to reopen to traffic in August. Access to residences may be restricted at times, but driveway closures will not exceed 10 days. The project is funded with fuel tax and wheel tax dollars.
The open house will not include a formal presentation. Representatives from the City and the project contractor, Pavers, Inc., will be available to answer questions.
