Open House Set for North 33rd and Cornhusker Project

The Railroad Transportation Safety District (RTSD) and City of Lincoln invite the public to an open house Thursday, February 22 about plans for a transportation project near North 33rd Street and Cornhusker Highway. The meeting is from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Center for People in Need, 3901 N. 27th Street. No formal presentation is planned.

The open house will focus on the BNSF corridor between N. 27th and N. 48th streets, which is used by trains, vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists. The open house is part of the project's planning phase, which will help to identify ways to improve safety and mobility and reduce delays in the corridor. Participants at the open house will learn more about the planning process and be able to discuss the project with representatives from the RTSD, the City and the design consultants.

The planning phase will include the development of a subarea plan in the project vicinity and a corridor enhancement plan along Cornhusker Highway from 11th to 56th streets. These plans will help identify the long-term vision and needs of the area. The vision and needs will guide the design of street configurations that will improve safety and reduce delays along the railway corridor. Future project phases include detailed environmental analysis, design and right-of-way acquisition. The construction date has not been set and will be dependent upon successful completion of other project phases.

The meeting room is accessible for persons with disabilities, and a Spanish interpreter will be available. Parking is available on the south side of the building.
