As part of America Recycles Day, Friday, November 15, the City invites volunteers to sign up for the new Bin Buddies Recycling Assistance Team to help at the City's recycling drop-off sites. The Waste Diversion Office of Lincoln Transportation and Utilities has created the program to educate and assist residents at the sites. To sign up, visit lincoln.ne.gov (keyword: buddies).
"The goal of the new Bin Buddies program is to help Lincoln and Lancaster County residents recycle right," said Willa DiCostanzo, Waste Diversion Coordinator. "Bin Buddies will help reduce the amount of 'wish-cycling' that occurs at the drop-off sites by clarifying for residents what can and can't be recycled in our community. They will also help break down cardboard boxes and keep the sites tidy." DiCostanzo said training will be provided for volunteers.
A second opportunity for volunteerism on America Recycles Day is through Keep Lincoln and Lancaster County Beautiful (KLLCB), a program of the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department. KLLCB will host three litter pick-up events from 2 to 4 p.m. at these recycling collection sites:

"Litter cleanups make Lincoln even cleaner, greener and healthier," said Sarah Mason, KLLCB Coordinator. "Litter reduction and recycling are crucial for a healthy environment, and a healthy environment is essential for our wellbeing."
